1. Something Fun: Love-Themed Food
Eating is a must, so we might as well make it fun for Valentine’s Day.
Serving red or heart-themed foods are a simple way to bring fun to the holiday.
11 Valentine’s Day Food Ideas
- Use cookie cutters to make heart-shaped pancakes, sandwiches, waffles, or other foods
- Put pancake batter in an empty condiment squeeze bottle (like from ketchup). You can then write names, words like LOVE, draw pictures, and make virtually any shaped pancake with the batter.
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Watermelon
- Strawberry milk
- Berry Smoothie
- Blend 2 cups water, 1 cup spinach, 2 cups frozen berries, and 1 banana. Adjust the thickness to your liking: add more water to thin or more berries to thicken.
- Raspberry or strawberry flavored yogurt
- Cherry tomatoes
- Decorate heart-shaped sugar cookies
- Cut English muffins into a heart shape and have mini heart pizzas
2. A Little Lesson: Valentine’s Day Ideas for Families to Talk, Sing, Read, Write, and Play about Love
The activities of talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing are the foundation of building a strong reader.
So have discussions about how we can love others (even when it’s hard), sing songs about love or Valentine’s day, read books that tell stories about love, write your own stories or practice writing with Valentine’s Day Printables, or play games that involve hearts or simply kindness.
Lucky for you, we’ve pulled together tons of those ideas for you! 😉

Wondering how to fit Little Lessons into your busy family schedule?
The two main ways to fit important lessons into your busy family schedule are to find spontaneous teaching moments throughout the day and to schedule family learning time each week. These two posts go into detail about these two ways and tips for making it happen with your family.

3. A Service Idea: Handmade Valentines
This idea is an oldie but a goodie.
Get out the crafts supplies like paper, markers, crayons, doilies, glitter, stickers, and more. Make good old-fashioned Valentine’s Day cards for a neighbor, friend, family member, elderly individual, or someone who might be feeling lonely.

Hang in there!
5. A Quick Tip: Love You Forever
Here’s one of my favorites…
This quote comes from one of my favorite love stories about a mom and her son: Love You Forever by Robert Munsch.

Fair warning, this one usually makes me cry. But my kids love it too, and the message is oh so true. We do love our kiddos forever, through every stage and season, the difficult and fun. “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always.”
Valentine’s Day is also the perfect excuse (if you feel like you need one) to get out on a date. Remember, our kids are always learning about relationships and love by how they see us interact with our spouse, partner, or significant other.
So this quick tip is to use Valentine’s Day as yet another way to show our families unconditional love.
I hope you have a happy, loving Valentine’s Day with all the loves of your life!
And that is Friday’s Fast Five!
