5 Unique Things to Do on Mother’s Day
Try these fun ideas this Mother’s Day!
1. Something Fun: Family Memory Book
Record the best moments of family life in a Family Memory Book!
Draw pictures, write quick stories, include mementos, or get creative with craft supplies. Use a 3 Ring Binder with Heavyweight Sheet Protectors to keep things simple. Start the book on Mother’s Day and have everyone add a page every month or so. This is a fun way to capture what Moms will love remembering for years to come, her kids’ memories of home life both big and small.
Plus, Research has shown that recalling positive memories can lessen the effects of depression. So, in both creating and then reviewing this book, family happiness can be increased. Bonus!
2. A Little Lesson: Mom Trivia
How much do the kids know about their mom and grandmothers? Mom Trivia is a simple, fun way for them to learn more.
Write out ten or more true/false statements about Mom and/or Grandmas. As you go through the statements, have kids hold up their guesses of True! or False!
Ideas you could include in Mom Trivia statements:
- Favorite food
- First job
- Birthplace
- How many siblings
- Middle name
- First car (age when got it or model)
- Favorite vacation place
- Favorite movie or show
- What she wanted to be when she grew up
- Where she went to college or what she studied
- Favorite color
- How a specific life lesson was learned
- An embarrassing moment
- Dream day
- What she’d do with a million dollars
Wondering how to fit Little Lessons into your busy family schedule?

3. A Service Idea: Foster or Orphaned Kids
Serving those who are currently not with their moms is definitely a unique thing to do on Mother’s Day that will bring the family together in meaningful ways.
If you know a foster family, you can make specific offers to relieve some of their stress. You can donate time, money, or your talents to a charity. You can search the National Foster Care and Adoption Directory to find local contacts. Together We Rise also provides volunteer opportunities to help foster kids.
Service is a great way to build a stronger, happier family. If you want more service ideas, request Raising Compassionate Children in a Conceited World, which includes 101 Service Ideas for Families.
4. Something Random: Dishes
True story…
Even if it just means more work tomorrow, I hope you get a little break on Mother’s Day!

5. A Quick Tip: Motherhood
This.
Embrace the full experience that motherhood brings. We often spend Mother’s Day glamorizing the role of Mother, and it certainly does bring some of the best life has to offer. However, it makes a unique and wonderful idea to spend some time on Mother’s Day sharing some of the lows and highs, the challenges and blessings. Older kids especially will benefit from hearing some of the realities of life and how through it all, Mom is grateful to be Mom.
And that is Friday’s Fast Five!
