5 After-School Activities for Kids that are Active and Engaging
Are you looking for after-school activities for your children that will benefit them, your family, and your community? Whatever their likes or passions, there are many opportunities for kids and teens to get involved and spend time doing something productive and enjoyable. Here are five ideas to consider for after-school activities for kids.
The following is a guest post by Emma Grace Brown.
Volunteering at the Animal Shelter
Pets waiting for their forever homes at your local animal shelter or rescue often need social interaction and some basic training in order to make them adoptable. If your kids have an affinity for furry creatures, volunteering and helping dogs and cats in need is a great way to get them involved in a good cause. And you may even find a new four-legged family member in the process!
Collecting Goods for the Underprivileged
Getting your kids involved in the community makes for perfect after-school activities for kids. They could start a food drive, collect warm clothes for the homeless, or gather school supplies for underprivileged students. Set up a collection area in your house where your children can store and organize the collected items before they get distributed, and have them keep track of their progress. Then, take them to deliver their donations to a local charity. Seeing young people do good may inspire a lot of grown-ups to follow suit!
Planting a Garden
Exercise and fresh air, plus some fresh food to boot? Yes, please! If you have a large enough yard, let your children plot and plant their own garden, which has many benefits. They can start by doing research on the best location to grow their harvest, watering and fertilizing, and the germination process. Then comes the fun part of digging in the dirt and spending time in the sun. And as a family, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor on your dinner table! No yard? No problem! Have them grow a small herb garden or a hydroponic garden on a windowsill.
Designing Greeting Cards
Do you have a budding artist at home? Set up a space where your little creator will be able to color, paint, glue, and design great pieces of art without putting your furniture or floors in harm’s way. Encourage them to come up with original artwork for greeting cards. Print a few copies and send them to your friends and family members for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Receiving one of those will be such a treat for your loved ones, they may even hire your child to design their next holiday greeting cards!
Launching a Small Business
If you have a teenager interested in making money after school, help them come up with a business plan and start them on the path to entrepreneurship. By forming an LLC, they can even start investing in their future. If you’re not sure where to start, you can use a formation service to create a limited liability company. Read the reviews online to find the best service to set up your teen as a small business owner. Whether they’re launching a pet sitting business, a lawn mowing business, tutoring services, or an online shop, the LLC structure will provide them with limited liability in case of a dispute arising, and they’ll also benefit from its tax advantages.
After-School Activities for Kids
There are many opportunities for after-school activities for kids and teens eager to participate in community efforts. Volunteering, creating art, and launching a business are just a few ways children can have fun and make a positive impact on the lives of the people around them. So, encourage them to find their path, and watch them blossom!
