Cheater, Cheater…

Little #3 has a propensity to make us all laugh.  He’s done it well since he began walking and talking.  Often he is funny on purpose.  He is much funnier than I could ever hope to be.

Sometimes though, he’s just really funny, without trying one iota.  He says funny things, makes funny faces, moves in funny ways, and truly just “has a way about him.”  He is a constant ray of sunshine and a joy to have in our home.

One of his favorite things to do is play games.  Game playing is a tradition I inherited from my family.  I still relish in a good game of cards with my now 95-year-old Grandpa.  It’s a tradition I’ve loved continuing with my kids.

Little #3 and I play a lot of games together when the older kids are at school.  We also love playing games together as a whole family.  We have a pretty mean, long-running Sorry competition, boys against girls.  (I fear that the overall score is not in the females’ favor.)

Sometimes our games end up in crying, often in laughter.

A family favorite is Go Fish.  We have an Alphabet version and were given a Classic version not long ago that we love.

Little #3 is four years old now and can play Go Fish by himself.  However, recently he’s been employing a new strategy for winning.  He picks a teammate.  As the game progresses, he watches which pile of matches is getting the highest.  Then, when the game is almost over, he trades teams.

Voila!

It’s victory every time.  He doesn’t seem to notice that we’ve figured him out.

Once in a while though, his plan doesn’t work.  The piles may be deceiving or he may switch teams too soon.  Sometimes when that happens, or when he feels he has been wronged in some other way, he will yell with all his four-year-old might, “Cheater, Cheater, pants on fire!”

It gets us every time.
