Tips for Using the Checklist for Bathroom Cleaning

Print out the checklist and laminate it or put it in a sheet protector. It’s a good idea to keep the checklist and a dry erase marker in a drawer in the bathroom or with the cleaning supplies.

Follow the order on the checklist, so first prep the toilet bowl. Squirt the toilet cleaning solution into the bowl, and be sure to get up around the rim. Let it sit working, while the other tasks are done.

Then continuing down the list will be working top to bottom. This way if something drips it’s falling onto a surface that hasn’t been cleaned yet.

Finish up with the bathroom floor.

Tips for How to Teach Kids to Clean the Bathroom

A great way to teach kids how to clean the bathroom is to first show kids what’s expected. Clean and explain how to do the different cleaning tasks, using the checklist for bathroom cleaning as you go. I know when my kids are learning they especially need direction on how much cleaning supply to use, like ONE squirt on the mirror. 🙂

Next, have the child clean the bathroom while you’re there to watch and help as needed.

Last, kids can clean by themselves and have the job “inspected” afterward to make sure it meets expectations. The Bathroom Cleaning Checklist is a great way to help kids stay on task and make sure they remember each step in the process.

In general, it’s helpful when we focus on the positives. Even if a job isn’t quite right yet, point out the things that were done well first. Help kids recognize that their contribution to helping around the house is important and appreciated!

  1. Hello! I think it’s a great idea to print checklist schedules for kids because a) the colors make it seem like fun and b) something about it being printed out makes them feel like it should be “followed”, they take it more seriously.
